My First Step Into The Medical Field
Hey guys! I know it has been literally FOREVER since my last blog post. I'm 99% sure it has been atleast a month but don't quote me on that. I just recently got into a position where I have tons of downtime and realized I got to get back into blogging PLUS I recently started a CNA program and felt like this would be the prime opportunity to have tons to blog about. I am not going to go into full detail about my program or disclose anything but I will write blog posts about fascinating things that I learn and want to share with you or maybe first-hand experience/tips!
I know that Nursing Assistant school is not amazing or something to brag about but it is some sort of step into the direction I am headed, even if it is a very teeny one. This is going to atleast get me working and gaining experience to help as I continue in school for the next couple years. Trust me, I am not stopping after CNA school. If there is better out there than I am going to go for it. Don't settle, period. I mean, school is long and feels like you've been there ten years even though it has been one but why wouldn't you want to make more money? Why wouldn't you want to know more than the CNA's if you had the chance? I know I am going to take it if I get the opportunity and as of right now I have LPN school plans for January, so fingers crossed for that.
First thing I want to say about my CNA school is that so far I love it, not a fan of the fast paced learning because I am a hands on person and love practicing till perfection. With saying that though, I have so far made friends and realized it is easier to retain the information I am learning because I actually want to pursue medicine. I think general ed. courses in college get us thinking that theres no way were going to make it through a program such as nursing but if it is really what interests you then you're going to remember more than you think. I have studying issues but with this it is a lot more natural because theres passion behind it.
So if you want the inside on my CNA class, I will say that it is a 7 week course that is saturdays and sundays for 8 hours. They offered a 4 week course that was on the weekdays but the weekend one just fit better for my situation. They can range anywhere from $300-$1500 depending on the location/class. I have five other girls in my class who I have been able to establish friendships with and were able to really help each other out and some of us know things the others didn't so it really helps to actually work with your classmates guys! This week we plan to study and practice on each other because I promise you it helps more than just on your own. I am so thankful to have friends to study with that are as serious about this as I am.
If you are not sure exactly what being a CNA fully entails then I will give you the lo-down. Certified Nursing Assistants are usually found working in nursing homes and hospitals but mainly nursing homes. You are basically assisting the RN with duties they do not have time for and you are doing duties that assist your patient/resident such as bathing, feeding, dressing, oral care, vital signs, making their beds, changing sheets, monitoring them and engaging them in activities. The list is endless and some tend to think "that sounds like being a slave" but really you're going to end up having a great impact on your patient/resident because you cared for them in every single aspect. It sounds tiring and it can be but I also think it is very rewarding and a good preparation for advancing in the nursing field.
So I hope this post didn't bore you and that this helped you if you're a CNA yourself and can relate or maybe you're considering nursing as a career. This is such a great program because you're able to get experience and have a good job to help put you through RN school so if you know you want to be a nurse, go get your CNA license! If you have any questions about becoming a CNA, my study tips or just anything even if it doesn't relate to this post at all then you can comment below or email me at Cheyyalexis@yahoo.com.
